Hello everyone! This is my first blog and first blog post ever. Let me introduce myself. My name is Jon Sturtevant. I am a high school math teacher teaching at Granada Hills Charter High School in the Los Angeles, CA. I am very excited to start this blog. I am a fourth year teacher and I am also part of Math for America Los Angeles as a teaching fellow (probably applying to be a master teacher this year). I want to start blogging for a number of reasons:
#1 To start sifting through my thoughts and have a meaningful way of reflecting. I constantly reinvent myself and try new things. I need to start documenting them/actually reflecting so I can start to improve in a more systematic and strategic way.
#2 To help share/archive some of the things I do/try throughout the year. The good, the bad, and the ugly.
#3 To start interacting with the global community of math teachers. I have been a lurker in the Math Twitter Blogosphere for a long time but I feel like it is finally time to contribute/start a conversation. #mtbos
#4 I want to be the best teacher I can be. That will only happen with constant collaboration, and trying new things. I work with a few great teachers at my school (our math department has 27 teachers!) and they help me everyday. I can only imagine what a global community of teachers like them could do.
I am very excited to be here and hope I can keep up and blog a little bit this year and see how it goes. Here goes nothing!
Oh my goodness, your school must be humongous! My school only has 14 teachers total for all subjects!
Welcome to the #MTBoS!
